Attendance
Working together to improve attendance
We are committed to making sure that all students at Dorothy Stringer can actively participate in the academic and social opportunities that we offer. As such, we have a school Attendance Action Plan which is central to our whole school development. Our evidence-based plan, which has been developed with a wide range of partners, has belonging, relationship building, adaptive teaching and targeted support at its core.
Attendance expectations
The law entitles every child of compulsory school age to receive a full-time education. If parents/carers have decided to register their child at a school, they have a legal duty to ensure their child attends that school regularly. This means that their child must attend on time and every day the school is open. There are a few exceptions, such as being too ill to attend or being given permission for an absence in advance from the school.
We recognise that some students face a range of challenges that can make regular attendance difficult. We encourage families who struggle to get their children into school to reach out to our professional and dedicate Pastoral and Attendance Teams for support.
